Dual-layer Ebg Structures for Low-profile “bent” Monopole Antennas

چکیده
We propose in this paper the design, realization and experimental characterization of a low-profile metamaterial “bent” monopole antenna with a total height of 0.027λ0 and a fractional bandwidth of 24.4% around 1.3GHz. The metamaterial (MTM) structure is a dual-layer mushroom-like electromagnetic band gap (DLEBG) conceived and optimized to improve the antenna’s operating bandwidth. Moreover, a “Sabre-Type” antenna composed by two identical “bent” monopole metamaterial antennas placed on both sides of a composite thin slab material has been simulated and realized. The “sabre” antenna provides a vertically polarization and omnidirectional radiation patterns in the elevation plane while its radiation patterns are almost directional in the azimuth plane. A maximum gain of 8.7 dB is obtained by measurement at 1.45 GHz. A remarkable agreement is obtained between the measured and the simulated results.

Low Profile Dual Spiral-Loop Antenna over Electromagnetic Band-gap Ground Plane for Circular Polarization
Electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structures exhibit unique electromagnetic properties that have led to a wide range of applications in antenna and propagation fields [1], [2]. There are two major advantages associated with EBG ground planes. First, such structures exhibit the possibility of creating a perfect magnetic conductor (PMC) because of their in-phase reflection phase characteristics. Thi...

In this review article, different structures of monopole antennas based on metamaterial concepts which have been developed for various wireless applications are presented. The antennas designed for wireless applications must be broad band, low profile, small size and have better performance. متن کاملA Broadband UHF Antenna on a Non - UniformAperiodic ( NUA ) EBG Surface Report
A new concept to design thin directional broadband antennas on EBG or HIS surfaces is proposed. Using our proposed concept an octave or more bandwidth is obtained with fairly thin EBG structures even at UHF frequencies allowing low profile antenna design and development. At the heart of the proposed scheme lies the concept of a non-uniform aperiodic EBG surface where the EBG patch size and thei...
متن کاملFDTD Analysis of Top-Hat Monopole Antennas Loaded with Radially Layered Dielectric
Top-hat monopole antennas loaded with radially layered dielectric are analyzed using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. Unlike the mode-matching method (MMM) (which was previously used for analyzing these antennas) the FDTD method enables us to study such structures accurately and easily. Using this method, results can be obtained in a wide frequency band by performing only one ti...
متن کاملEbg Structures and Its Recent Advances in Microwave Antenna
Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) structures are nonperiodic structures that show unique electromagnetic features, such as frequency band gap for surface waves and in-phase reflection coefficient for incident plane waves, which makes them desirable for low-profile antenna designs. A very innovative topic for antenna scientists and engineers are the applications of EBG structures in antenna designs...
